Welcome

It seems like Christmas was yesterday and we’re already half way to the next one. Doesn’t time fly! With the new financial year now upon us it’s time to start thinking about how to best spend your IT budget for this year.

Rather than just buying equipment when you realise you needed it a week ago how about working with Crunch IT to create a 5 year IT budget. Through our Strategic IT Review process we can do this for you and a lot more. Our Strategic IT Review assesses where your business is at with regards to IT infrastructure and creates a plan for improving your IT effectiveness and efficiency which will normally also lead to staff improvements in these areas.

Speaking of effectiveness and efficiency, the iPhone is here and you can expect it to be closely associated with words such as Awesome and Brilliant.

Here at Crunch HQ it seems like we’re deploying a new xServe every week which is great news for all concerned. If you’re interested in knowing what Apple’s Server solutions can do for you in areas such as Podcast producing, Video Conferencing and creating internal or public Wiki sites please let us know.

Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea - Cancer Council

Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea is one of The Cancer Council’s foremost fundraising events and the largest, most successful event of its kind in Australia. Over $40 million has been raised since it first began in 1994.

On the 21st of May, Crunch IT took a break from their working day to help support the work of The Cancer Council, and raise funds for cancer research.

It was an exciting start to the day, to see the local crunch fridge and lunch table packed with freshly baked cake, scones, pastries and even chocolate! Everyone seemed to find excuses to walk around Crunch HQ to catch a glimpse of the new edibles added to the fridge and table! As the never ending morning progressed, it was finally time for the event!

Chatting away, sipping tea over a mouth watering pastry was just what we all needed! Although it was Crunchie's very own Brendan Keillor who had the biggest smile on his face. His Crunch cupcakes were incredibly tasty and the perfect reflection of his love and devotion for Crunch!

  Biggest Morning Tea
At the conclusion of our event, it was the funds we raised that lifted our spirits. It’s important to make sure we take time in life to think about those less fortunate than us and help others when we can. The Biggest Morning tea is something everyone can participate in. You can have your morning tea as part of a team meeting or simply enjoy a break together. Once you decide to host a morning tea for The Cancer Council, all you need to do is set a date and time, invite people along and ask people to leave a donation!

iPhone Crunch IT
The Apple iPhone is released in Australia on the 11th of July with Telstra, Optus and Vodafone listed as carriers at this time. The phone to be released is the latest and greatest 3G iPhone running Version 2 software.

This is very exciting for all of us who have hoped that Apple would take this step for many years. And whilst other countries around the world have had the older version of the iPhone for a while now the new model and software takes a huge leap forward.

Whilst the iPhone is fundamentally a ’Smart Phone’ its features, ease of use and ease of integration highlight to us just how dumb previous Smart Phones have been.

Don’t think this is just a cool toy either. Many of the worlds corporations are either using or plan to use the iPhone to streamline internal processes.

From a creative perspective those that are ahead of the curve are already planning campaigns, media etc that utilize the iPhone’s high level of integration and awesome screen and audio quality. Whilst Crunch IT are not an iPhone reseller at this stage we are keen to work with you to ensure that your business makes the most of this fantastic new technology. If you have any questions contact us now.

Firefox V3 - more than just a record breaker Crunch IT
The recent release of Firefox 3 for Mac and PC was marketed very well by turning it into a Guinness World Record attempt. The aim was to make the new version of Firefox the most downloaded software in 24 hours, and they did it. 8,002,530 people downloaded Firefox 3 in the first 24 hours of it’s release. I’m not sure what the previous record was or even if there was one, but over 8 million people wanted to be a part of it.  Not surprising really as your browser becomes one of the most, if not the most used application on the computer.

But what of this latest version?

The first thing you will notice is that Firefox 3 has got a sleek new interface. Some are very simple changes, like making the 'back' button - the most frequently used in the browser - bigger.  Through this the ‘recent pages’ drop down list also gets a spruce up, making it more visually appealing and user friendly. The "Dashboard" like interface to add bookmarks is also a welcome add-on.

The address bar is again more visually appealing and a lot more functional. You can use it to search previously accessed or bookmarked pages, much like you might do for any keyword search in a database. The search function can also be pointed directly at sites like Wikipedia and eBay rather than just Google, which is a welcome time saver. It might sound like a small change, but after a couple of hours you'll wonder how you ever lived without it.

I really like the ability to save and restore sessions when you quit the browser. If, like me, you often have about 8 tabs running this is extremely handy.

There’s also better Malware protection, better download manager, page zoom and password management improvements. Plug-in support, which sets it a part from many browsers, is as good as ever to customize your browsing experience.

The list of improvements and features goes on but in summary Version 3 is much better than Version 2, at least on par with Safari Version 3 and don’t even mention Internet Explorer. So far we've found it very stable for a new release so I’d suggest you download it and enjoy this great new browser.

Adobe Creative Suite Version 4 Crunch IT
Adobe are fairly advanced in the development of the next Version of their Creative Suite and have released public Betas for some of the Apps. We can only hope that the improvements in CS4, which won’t be called CS4, are as great as they have been in CS3.
