We all made it through financial year end relatively unscathed and now you’re probably looking forward to Christmas. But hold your horses there’s heaps to happen before then. After the overwhelming success of our Adobe CS3 information evening we’re planning another night for our clients with an information evening focussing on the emerging importance of all types of new media and how they impact on your industry.

The release of Apple’s OSX 10.5 Leopard has been delayed slightly but is due soon and we’ve also had funky new iMacs released. Further in this edition of eBits we’ll discuss Disaster Recovery Planning, Piracy and heaps more.

OS X Leopard – Quick Look

Using Quick Look in Leopard, you can view the contents of a file without even opening it. Flip through multiple-page documents. Watch full-screen video. See entire Keynote presentations. With a single click.

So you’re flipping through files in the Finder. But you’re looking for something specific and you don’t have time to open lots of files to find it. Enter Quick Look. It gives you a sneak peek of entire files — even multiple-page documents and video — without opening them.

OS X Leopard “Server” – Team up

Leopard Server makes it easy for groups to collaborate and communicate through their own wiki-powered intranet website complete with group calendar, blog, and mailing list.

With just a few clicks users can create and edit wiki pages, tag and cross-reference material, upload files and images, add comments, and search content with drag-and-drop ease. And you'll never have to worry about mistakes, because the wiki maintains the complete document history, so you can always revert back to a previous version of each page.

Disaster Recovery Planning

Does your business have a Disaster Recovery Plan?

Sure your backup tapes are stored offsite but that’s not enough if the worst happens.  What if your offices go up in smoke or your server equipment is stolen? What’s your plan? The harsh reality is that 95% of businesses do not have a Disaster Recovery Plan and when faced with a disaster the majority of companies will go out of business because they are unable to start trading quickly enough to keep clients and save the business. Crunch IT have started working with our clients to draw up Disaster Recovery Plans to help clients deal with the worst case should it ever arise. If you want to discuss this with us please contact Mark by email or call 8699 1144.

Software Piracy

As a Microsoft Partner we recently received a letter - yes, even Microsoft use snail mail - reminding us of how seriously they take software piracy. The letter detailed a number of successful prosecutions that had taken place in Australia in the past year with fines ranging from $20k to $110k.

This is an opportune time to remind all our clients that all vendors including Adobe, Apple and Microsoft do enforce their software licensing anti-piracy rules. If you’re not sure whether your company is fully licensed please book us in for a software audit of your business.

Adobe Creative Suite - Design Premium Edition

There are so many new features in this latest release from Adobe that we couldn’t do it justice by just mentioning a few of the features. If the response from the audience at our information evening is any indication, this is a ripper product likely to see designers create even more impressive work in much less time. The costs saving will be immediate.

To get a better idea of what this new suite of products can do for you and your business, check out Adobe’s website or email us at sales@crunchit.com.au

New VMware fusion

The development of Software Applications that utilise the power of the Intel Chip in Mac’s continues. We previously broadcast the value of Parallels and now there’s this product from VMware called Fusion.

Like Parallels, this product enables you to run Windows on your Mac. In our opinion Fusion runs faster and is more stable than Parallels but we’ll await the next version of Parallels to see if this changes. VMware is available from Crunch IT now for just $119 Inc. GST Contact us now.

iWork '08
Apple’s Office Suite has taken a big leap forward with this latest version. Many of us have used and loved Pages and Keynote for some time now but with the addition of the Numbers spreadsheet application (see Excel equivalent) this is now a truly great option for the Mac in place of Microsoft’s Office.

To find out more check out the apple website or email us. RRP $99 Inc. GST
